High quality public education is key to a successful democracy. Public education has come under attack in recent years (for example, our state legislature has cut per pupil funding, textbook funds, and has taken away recently hired teachers' due process rights); so, I have become a teacher activist. When interested persons ask about how they might help, I refer them to this website. According to the NC Professional Code of Ethics, I am not allowed to use school resources or class time to discuss my own personal political views or advocate for particular attitudes and/ or activities. This is where I can do so within those guidelines.
So, what might you do to help me and my fellow NC teachers?
1. Wear Red on Wed. for Public Ed.
At Leesville Road High School on Wednesdays, you might have noticed that almost every teacher is wearing red. Coincidence? Nope. We are all participating in a silent symbolic protest against the actions of the state legislature in recent years. Join us!
2. Get informed.
Go to the red4ednc.com website and read the articles posted there by Leesville teachers and others.
Go the the Public Schools First NC website and request their electronic newsletter.
Find Red4EdNC and Public Schools First NC on Facebook and "like" our pages. Share our posts.
3. Join me at protests.
There are no protests currently scheduled. I will post the next one as soon as the schedule for fall 2016 is known.
